Answer:

Distance covered in 20 sec = 200 m

Time taken to cover 500 m =

200:20::500:x

200x=20*500

200x=10000

x= 50

Time taken to cover 500 m = 50 seconds

There are two cases in this question.

In first case, bus is moving with a uniform speed and covers a distance of 200 m in 20 seconds.

d1 = 200 m and t1 = 20 sec

In second case, bus covers a distance of 500 m and we have to find the time taken to cover 500 m.

d2 = 500 m and t2 = ?

Now,

Distance = Speed × Time

For 1st case:

→ 200 = s1 × 20

→ 200/20 = S1

10 = S1

For 2nd case:

→ 500 = s2 × t2

500/t2 = s2

Since, bus is moving with a uniform speed. So, s1 = s2

→ 10 = 500/t2

Cross-multiply them

→ t2 = 500/10

t2 = 50

Therefore, time taken to cover a distance of 500 m is 50 seconds.

Verification:

d1/d2 = t1/t2

From above calculations, we have d1 = 200 m, t1 = 20 sec, d2 = 500 m and t2 = 50 sec

→ 200/500 = 20/50

→ 2/5 = 2/5

L.H.S. = R.H.S.
