Given :

• Initial Velocity (u) = 60 m/s

• Final Velocity (v) = 0 m/s

• Time (t) = 3 seconds

To Find :

• Acceleration produced (a)

Solution :

We know that, acceleration is measure of the change in velocity of an object per unit time.

★ Acceleration = Final Velocity - Initial Velocity/Time taken

→ a = \sf\dfrac{0-60}{3}

→ a = \sf\cancel\dfrac{-60}{3}

a = - 20 m/s²

\therefore Acceleration produced is - 20 m/

The negative sign of acceleration means that it is retardation. So, we can also say that the bus has a retardation of + 20m/s

Explanation:

{\red{\underline{\underline{\bold{Given:-}}}}}

  • Initial velocity = 60m/s

  • Final velocity = 0m/s

  • Time taken to stop = 3 sec

{\blue{\underline{\underline{\bold{To\:Find:-}}}}}

  • The acceleration produced by the bus

{\green{\underline{\underline{\bold{Solution:-}}}}}

According to the first equation of motion :-

\bf v = u \:  \:  +  \:  at

Here:-

• v = final velocity

• u = initial velocity

• a = acceleration

• t = time

Substituting the values:-

We get

\implies \bf v = u \:  \:  +  \:  at

\implies\bf 0 \: =  \: 60 \:  \:  +  \:  a(3)

\implies\bf  \: 60 \:  \:  +  \:  3a \:  =  \: 0

\implies\bf   3a \:  =  \:  - 60

\implies\bf   a \:  =  \:   \dfrac{ - 60}{ \:  \: 3}

\implies\bf   a \:  =  \:   { - 20}

\boxed{ \bf Acceleration \:  \:  =  \:  - 20m/ {s}^{2} }

Note:-

Here, the negative sign indicates negative acceleration (or) retardation
