\huge{\mathfrak{Answer:-}}

Retardation is nothing but acceleration in the opposite direction.

____________________________

Given:-

u = 18km/h = 18×1000/3600 = 5 m/s

t = 2.5s

v = 0

(v = 0 because the brakes are applied,Hence, the bus comes to a rest)

_____________________________

Formula used:-

\boxed{v=u+at}

____________________________

Solution:-

0 = 5 + a(2.5)

-5 = a × 2.5

a = \frac{-5}{2.5}

a = -2

Hence, the retardation is

\boxed{\huge{\star{\bf{2ms^{-2}}}}}
