QUESTION :-

A bus starting from rest moves with uniform acceleration of 0.1 m/s² for two minutes. Find: i) the speed acquired; and ii) the distance travelled.

SOLUTION :-

Initial velocity, u = 0 m/s

Acceleration, a = 0.1 m/s²

Time, t = 2 minutes = 120 secs

i) We know,

v = u + at

⇒v = 0 + 0.1(120)

⇒v = 0 + 12

⇒v = 12 m/s

Therefore, the speed acquired is 12 m/s.

\rule{200}2

ii) We know,

v² - u² = 2as

⇒(12)² - (0)² = 2 × 0.1 × s

⇒144 - 0 = 0.2s

⇒s = 144/0.2

⇒s = 720 m

Therefore, the distance covered is 720 m.

Answer:

a = 0.1 m/s² , t =120 s , u = 0 m/s , v= ? , s = ?

v = u + at

= 0 + 0.1×120

°v = 12 m/s

s = ut + 1/2 at²

= 0 + 1/2×0.1×120²

= 0.05×14400

= 5×144

° s = 720

° The speed acquired and distance traveled is 12 m/s and 720 m respectively
