QUESTION:

A bus traveling at 36 m /h acceleration for 5 sec. to attain a velocity of 54 km/h . Find its acceleration.

ANSWER:

SOLUTION:

Equation

v = u + at

36 km /h = 36*1000 /( 60*60) = 10 m/s

54 km /h = 56*1000/(60*60) = 15 m/s

substitute

15 m/s = 10 m/s + a* 5 s

a*5s = 5m/s

a = 5m/s / 5 s

a = 1 m/s².

IMPORTANT FORMULA:

⏩v=u+at

⏩s=ut+12at2

⏩s=vt−12at2

⏩s=12(u+v)

Given the bus is travelling at 36 m/h

= (36 / 60 x 60) m/s

= 36 / 3600 m/s = 1/100 m/s = 0.01 m/s

Given time = 5s

Given velocity = 54 km/h

➥ 54 x 1000 / 3600

➥ 54 x 5/18

➥ 3 x 5 = 15 m/s

We know that : v = u + at

15 = 0.01 + a x 5

15 - 0.01 = 5a

14. 99 = 5a

a = 14.99 / 5 = 2.998 m/s²
