A bus travels a distance of 120km with a speed of 40km/hr and returns with a speed of 30 km/hr... calculate the average speed for the entire journey....

It's clearly given that the bus returns with a speed of 30 km/h. So obviously we'll take the same distance.

Here, the time taken to cover 120 km with a speed of 40 km/h is 120/40 = 3 hr

The time taken to return with a speed of 30 km/h is 120/30 = 4 hr

Average speed = Total distance / total time taken

= 120 + 120/ 3 +4

= 240/ 7

= 34.28 km/h
