since he sold in the means of 2/3 and 1/3, take any number which is divisible by 3. lets take 90.2/3 of 90 is 60. so 20% profit of 60 is 72 which is 12 gain.same goes for 1/3 of 90 is 30. so 14% profit of 30 is 4.2 gain.Total gain is 12+4.2 = 16.2 calculate profit % 16.2 * 100/90 = 18%
