a cable of 80 m is hanging from the top of two poles that are both 50 m from the ground. what is the distance between the two poles to one decimal place if the centre of the table is 10 m above the ground?

Final Answer : 0.0 m

1)
Assuming Both poles(GF & HC) are of equal length = 50 m .
Also, There is no disturbance along the length of cable.

2) We have,
AB = DF = EC = 10m
Therefore,
HE = GD = 40 m

Also, A is mid :
So, arc(AG) = arc(GH) = 40m

3) Suppose, Initially cable mid -point A coincides D which is of length 40m.
=> Then, slowly we extend /bring A to origin, then it's length must increase from 40m but it remains same.
=> There is no moment of point A from D.
Same happens with point E.
=> A, E, D coincides
=> Distance between poles is 0.0m ,in a nut both poles touch each other.

Hence, Distance between poles is
 \boxed{0.0 \:  m \: }
