It reduces the surface area available for transpiration and it also reduces the amount of water lost due to transpiration. Instead of leaves cactuses have thorns and the whole surface of the cactus is covered with a waxy layer or cuticle which does not allow the loss of water. The main advantage of the absence of leaves in cactus is to preserve water in the harsh climate of the desert and to prevent loss of water.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU...............
