(a) Calculate the resistance of the wire using the graph.
Current (A)-
Potential difference
Potential difference (V)
(b) How many 176 ohm resistors in parallel are required to carry 5 A on a 220 V line?
(c) Define electric power. Derive relation between power, potential difference and resistance.

Answer:

a) 20ohm b) 4resistors. c)P=V sq /R

Explanation:

a) By ohms law

V= RI. R= V/I = 2/0.1 = 20 ohm

In second case also R= 4/0.2 = 20ohm

b) Resistors in parallel are sum reciprocals of all Resistors which is equal to the total resistance reciprocal. Let the resistors be x

1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 .............

1/R = X/176

R= 176/x

By ohms law

V= RI. 220= 176/X *5

X = 4

c) Power is defined as rate of doing work.

P = W/T and we know that W=V*Q

P = V*Q/T and I = Q/T

SO P = V*I

BY OHMS LAW I = V/R

SO P= V*V/R

THAT IS P = V sq. /R
