A calorimeter of heat capacity 100 J/K is at room temperature of 30°C. 100 g of water at 40°C of specific
heat 4200 J/kg-K is poured into the calorimeter. What is the temperature of water in calorimeter?

The final temperature of water in the calorimeter will be 38.07°C.

- Let the final temperature of water in the calorimeter be T

- We know that :

Heat lost by water = Heat gained by Calorimeter

⇒ 0.1 × 4200 × (40 - T) = 100 × (T - 30)

⇒ 168 - 4.2 T = (T - 30)

⇒ 5.2 T = 198

⇒ T = 38.07°C
