Answer:

20 inmates will have to leave after 10 days

Step-by-step explanation:

let x be the amount of food

x/80=70 (x amount of food / 80 imates = 70 days)

after 10 days

(x/80)-10 = 70-10

(x-800)/80 = 60   -----> equation (1)

x-800 = 60*80 = 4800

x = 5600   ----->equation (2)

let y be the number of inmates that leave after 10 days

since after y number of inmates leave after 10 days

equation (1) --->      (x-800)/(80-y)=80

x-800 = (80-y) * 80

x-800 = 6400-80y

x = 7200-80y  -------> equation (3)

equation (3) - equation (2)

x = 7200 - 80y  -

x = 5600

--------------------------

0 = 1600 -80y

implies

80y = 1600

y = 1600/80

y = 160/8

 = 20

Question :- A camp having 80 inmates, has food sufficient for 70 days. How many inmates should leave after 10 days so that the remaining food lasts another 80 days ?

(A) 25

(B) 24

(C) 20

(D) 16

Solution :-

we know that,

  • M1 * D1 = M2 * D2

given that,

  • M1 = 80 inmates
  • D1 = (70 - 10) = 60 days
  • M2 = Let x inmates
  • D2 = 80 days.

so,

→ 80 * 60 = x * 80

→ x = 60 inmates .

therefore,

→ Inmates should leave = 80 - 60 = 20 inmates (Ans.)
