Given:

Total number of men initially in the camp = 20

Number of days the provision can last for 20 men = 6 days

To find:

How many days can the men survive with the remaining provision.

Solution:

Let the total provision be x.

For each day, the amount of provision available = x/6

For each day, a person would need the amount of provision = x/ (6*20) = x/120

Amount of provision used till the 4th day = 4* x/6

For the last two days, the amount of provision left = x - 4x/6 = 2x/6 = x/3

Number of men left in these two days = 20 - 4 = 16

And provision that a man needs in one day = x/120

16 men in a single day would need provision = 16 * x/120 = 2x/15

Number of days in which the provision would sustain = (x/3) / (2x/15)

= (x*15) / (3*2x) = 2.5 days

Therefore they can sustain for 2.5 days on the remaining provision.
