The answer is 30 days.

1) Let a soldier consume x units of food in a day.

2) Food consumed in a day by 60 soldiers would be 60x.

3) Total food supply for 60 soldiers for 40 days would be 2400x.

4) 20 soldiers, left the camp after 20 days

5)Food consumed by 60 soldiers in 20 days would be 1200x.

6) Remaining food = 2400x-1200x = 1200x

Remaining soldier = 60-20 = 40

7) Number of days the food would last = 1200/40 = 30 days
