Answer:

B can complete the work in 24  days

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data

A can complete a piece of work 3 times as fast as B

A and B together can complete the work in 6 days

here we need to find how many days B alone can take to complete the work

Let x be the work done by B in 1 day

then the work done by A in 1 day = 3x

the work done by both A and B in 1 day = 3x + x _(1)

number of days require to complete the work A and B together = 6

⇒ the work can be done by both together in 1 day = 1/6 _(2)

⇒ from (1) and (2)    x + 3x = 1/6

                            6 (3x + x) = 1

                            18x + 6x  = 1

                                   24 x = 1

                                        x = 1/24

⇒ the work done by B in 1 day = 1/24

B can complete the work in 24  days

                             Option (D) is correct answer
