A's 1 day work = 1/x

B's 1 day work = 1/y

(A+B)'s 1 day work = 1/z

.

. . 1/x + 1/y. = 1/z

or x+y = z

Step-by-step explanation:

A can complete a piece of work in x days

A 1day work = 1/x

B can complete a piece of work in y days

B 1day work = 1/y

A and B complete a piece of work in z days

(A+B) 1day work = 1/z

a/q

1/x + 1/y = 1/z

(x+y)/xy = 1/z

on taking resiprocal of it

xy/(x+y)= z
