A and B together takes \dfrac{36}{5} days to dig the whole trench.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

A can dig a 1/12of a trench in 1 day

So, Number of days taken by A to complete its work would be

\dfrac{1}{\dfrac{1}{12}}\\\\=12

B can dig 1/6 of the  trench in 3 days

So, Number of days taken by B to complete its work would be

\dfrac{3}{\dfrac{1}{6}}\\\\=3\times 6\\\\=18

So, total time taken by them altogether would be

\dfrac{1}{12}+\dfrac{1}{18}\\\\=\dfrac{3+2}{36}\\\\=\dfrac{5}{36}

So, A and B together takes \dfrac{36}{5} days to dig the whole trench.
