A can do 2 by 3 of a certain work in 12 days and B can do 1 by 6 of the same work in 4 days . both A and B together can complete the work in:

A can do 2/3 in 12 days
therefore , 2/36 in one day.

B can do 1/6 in 4 days
therefore 1/24 in one day

net work in one day by a and b =
$\frac{1}{36} + \frac{1}{24} = 0.0695$
So no of days required =1/0.0695=14.3 days
