A can do a piece of work in 12 days and B can do the same in 18 days how many days they will take to do the work together

LCM of 12 and 18 = 36

total work = 36 unit

1 day work of A = 36/12 = 3 unit

1 day work of B = 36/18 = 2 unit

B alone worked for 3 days ( as  A left the work 3 days before so, B has to do the left work alone for three days )

  • total work done by B alone in 3 days = 3 x 2 unit = 6 unit work,
  • total work left =  36 unit - 6 unit = 30 unit
  • 30 units work is done by both A and B

Hence, no. of days to complete the remaining work = 30/total work done by A and B

  • 30/5 = 6 days
