A can do its work in 20 days

B can do its work in 12 days

LCM of work days = total work

L.C.M of 20 and 12 is 60, so total work is 60.

Work done by A in 1 day = 60/20 = 3

Work done by B in 1 day = 60/12 = 5

Work done by B in 9 days is 5 × 9 = 45

So, 45 unit work B has finished and the remaining work is 60 - 45 = 15

Number of days taken by A to finish his 15 units work = 15/3 = 5 days.
