A can do a piece of work in 24 days and B in 30 days. A worked for 6 days and then B also joined him. In how many days will the whole work be completed?

In 6 days that A worked alone he did (6/24) or (1/4)th of the work. The work remaining is (3/4)th.


A and B do (1/24)+(1/30) = (5/120)+(4/120) = (9/120) = (3/40)th of the work in 1 day. So the remaining (3/4)th of the work can be done by A and B together in (3/4)/(3/40) = (3/4)*(40/3) = 10 days.


So the whole work is done in 6+10 = 16 days. Answer.
