A can do a piece of work in 40 days. He work as it for 8 days and then B finishes the remaining work in 16 days .How long will they take to complete the work if they do it together?​

*Let we take:-

  • A = x
  • B = y

First step would be unitary method. X takes 40 days for completing the entire work.

Thus, 1 day means 1/40 work

Thus, 8 days mean 1/5th work

Now, 4/5th work remains.

Y completes 4/5th work in 16 days

Thus, whole work in 16 × (5/4) = 20 days.

Now apply LCM method:-

No. of days for completing work together be x.

Therefore, 1/x = 1/20 + 1/40

=> 1/x=3/40

=> 1/x=3/40=> x=40/3 days

or

=> 13 days and 8 hours.
