A can do a piece of work in 40 days. He works at it for 8 days and then B finishes the

Volume of work done by A in 8- days= 8/40= 1/5 part of the work.
The remaining 4/5 part of the work is completed by B in 16- days. So B- alone can complete the work in = 16 x 5/4= 20- days.
Now A alone can complete the work in 40- days and B- alone can complete the work in = 20- days. Both combined can complete the work in = (40 x 20/(40 + 20) = 13.33 days.
That they can both combined complete the work in 13- days & 8- hours.
