Answer : 1/15

Explanation :

A can do a piece of work in 40 days

Work of A in 1 day=1/40

Work of A in 5 days=5/40=1/8

1/8th part of work is done by A

Remaining work (1-1/8) = 7/8

7/8th part is done by B in 21 days

Total work will be done by B in = 21/7/8 = 21/7 × 8 =

24 days.

Work done by B in one day=1/24

Work done by A and B together in one day will be

(1/40 + 1/24)

(3+5/120) = 8/120 = 1/15.

A and B will take 15 days to complete the work together.
