Answer:

The amount of work done if they work together for 10 days is 17/36

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

A can do a piece of work in 40 days whereas B can do same work in 45 days.

To find :

the amount of work done if they work together for 10 days.

Solution :

A can do a piece of work in 40 days

Work done by A alone in one day = 1/40

B can do the same work in 45 days.

Work done by B alone in one day = 1/45

The amount of work done by both A and B together in one day = work done by A alone in one day + work done by B alone in one day

= 1/40 + 1/45

= 1/5 (1/8 + 1/9)

= 1/5 [(9 + 8)/72]

= 1/5 × 17/72

= 17/360

Therefore, in one day the amount of work done by A and B is 17/360

In 10 days, the amount of work done by A and B together

= 10 × 17/360

= 17/36
