A can do a work in 6 days b can do it in 8 days

amount of work A can do in 1 day = 1/6

amount of work B can do in 1 day = 1/8

amount of work A and B can do together in 1 day = 1/6 + 1/8 = 7/24

in 2 days, they do = 2× 7/24 = 7/12

work remaining for A to do alone = 1 - 7/12 = 5/12

no. of days A will take = 5/12 ÷ 1/6 = 5/2 days

Thus A needs 2.5 days to complete the work.
