A can do a piece of work in 6 days working 8 hours a day while B can do the same work in 4 days working 10 hours a day. If the work has to be completed in 5 days, so how many hours do they need to work together in a day?

Answer:

no of Man- hours required by A- to complete the work alone= 9 x 6= 54

no of Man- hours required by B- to complete the work alone = 4 x 9= 36.

no of Man- hours required by both A and B to complete the work together

= (54 x36)/(54+36) = (54 x36)/90

= 21.6- Man- hours.

If they work 5 & 2/5- hours a day, then Number of days required to complete the work= 21.6/(27/5)

= (216/10) x 5/27

= 4- days
