Question :-

  • a can do a piece of work in 80 days he works at it for 10 days and then B alone finish the work in 42 days the number of days taken by two together to finish the work is

Concept :-

  • first, we'll find A's work in 1 day and in 10 days then we will find the remaining A's work.

  • Second, we'll find the number of days took for B to complete the whole work.

  • we will find the total number of days taken by both of them to finish the whole work.

Solution :-

A's work in 1 day = 1/80

A's work in 10 days = 1/80 × 10 = 1/8

A's remaining work = 1 - 1/8 = 7/8

Total number of days taken by B to complete the whole work = 40 × 8/7 = 48 days.

Therefore, B completed the whole work in 48 days.

Therefore, B's work in 1 day = 1/48

( A + B )'s 1 day work = 1/80 + 1/48 = 3+5/240 = 8/240 = 1/30

Therefore, they can finish the whole work in 30 days.
