Answer:

21 and 1/9 days

Step-by-step explanation:

A can do the work alone in 40 days

=> Fraction of work done by A in 1 day = 1/40

B can do the work alone in 45 days

=> Fraction of work done by B in 1 day = 1/45

When A and B work together,

they can complete (1/40 + 1/45) of the work in 1 day.

=> Fraction of work completed by A & B in 1 day = 17/360

A and B work together for 10 days

=> Fraction of work completed by A & B in 10 days = 170/360

The fraction of work unfinished by A & B after 10 days

= 1 - (170/360)

= 190/360

Thus, after 10 days

A needs to complete 190/360 of the work.

A can finish 1/40 of the work in 1 day

=> to complete 190/360 of the work he will need (190/360) ÷ (1/40) days

=> A will need (190 * 40)/(1 * 360) days

=> A will need (190/9) days = 21 and 1/9 days.

No. of days that A will take to finish the remaining work = 2121\frac{1}{9}
