1.66 days

Explanation:

Given,

A can do a piece of the work in 6 days

In a day A does (1/6)th of the work

B can do same work in 12 days

In a day B does (1/12)th of the work

A worked alone for 2 days. That is, 2(1/6)th work is done.

A did 1/3rd of total work.

B worked alone for 3 days. That is, 3(1/12)th work is done.

B did 1/4th of total work.

Total work done by A and B alone = 1/3 + 1/4

                                                          = (3+4)/12

                                                          = 7/12

The work left = 1 - 7/12 = 5/12

Work done by A and B together in a day = 1/6 + 1/12

                                                                    = 3/12

let x = number of days to complete the work

3/12 * x = 5/12

x = 5/3

x = 1.66 days
