Given:

A can give B a start of 20m

A can give C a start of 39m

Total distance both are travelling = 400m

To Find:

How much start B can give to C

Solution:

(L - x12)x23 = L(x13 - x12)= (400 - 20)x23 = 400(39 - 20)= x23 = 20 metres

Thus, B can give a start of 20m to C.
