190 \div t = 220 \div 44
220t = 199 \times 44
t = 38
by 3 second b will win

Given:

A runs 220 m race in 41 seconds

B runs 220 m race in 44 seconds

To find:

If B has a head start of 30 m then by what second B will win.

Solution:

  • As per the question, B has a head start of 30 m. Thus, A will 220 metre and B will run 190 m ( 220 - 30 ).
  • Now, B takes seconds to cover 1 m = 44 / 220
  • B takes seconds to cover 190 m = (44 / 220) x 190

                                                              = 38 s

  • Thus, A beats B by =  ( 41 - 38 ) = 3 s
