Solution :-

Candidate who won the election, got votes = 60 %

So, the other candidate who last, got votes = 100 - 60 = 40 %

Let the total number of votes be x

Then, according to the question.

⇒ 60 % of x - 40 % of x = 300

⇒ (x*60)/100 - (x*40)/100 = 300

⇒ 3x/5 - 2x/5 = 300

⇒ x/5 = 300

⇒ x = 300*5

⇒ x = 1500

So, total 1500 votes were cast.
