A candidate scores 20% and fails 50 marks, while another candidate who scores 40% marks More than the minimum marks required to pass the examination. Find the maximum marks for the examination

Let the max marks of the exam be x.

Given:-

Candidate A scores 20% of x (x/5 marks) and is 50 marks less for min pass marks. Hence pass marks is (x/5 + 50).

Candidate B scores 40% of x (2x/5 marks) and is 30 marks more than min pass marks. Hence 2x/5 = (x/5+50)+30.

2x/5 = x/5+80

x/5 = 80

x = 80*5 = 400.

Verify:-

Minimum pass marks is (x/5+50) point-1

400/5 + 50 = 130.

Candidate A scored 20% i.e 80 marks and is short by 50 to pass.

Candidate B scored 40% i.e 160 marks and is 30 marks above pass marks(130).
