let the maximum marks be x.
25% of x + 30 = 50% of x - 20
=> (25/100)x + 30 = (50/100)x - 20
=> x/4 + 30 = x/2 - 20
=> x/2 - 20 = x/4 + 30
=> x/2 - x/4 = 30 + 20
=> x/4 = 50 (As x/4 - x/2 = x/4)
=> x = 50*4
=> x = 200
Ans) The maximum marks is 200.
25% of x + 30 = 50% of x - 20

=> x/4 + 30 = x/2 - 20
=> x/2 - 20 = x/4 + 30
=> x/2 - x/4 = 30 + 20
=> x/4 = 50 (As x/4 - x/2 = x/4)
=> x = 50*4
=> x = 200
Ans) The maximum marks is 200.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER
Let the maximum marks that can be obtained be 'x'.
(25%of x)+30= (50%of x)-20
x/4+30=x/2-20
2x-x=120+80= 200marks.
x=200marks.
Minimum passing marks=200/4+30=80marks.
