A capillary tube of length 10 cm is dipped 3 cm inside water. the water rises upto 5 cm in the capillary. of the same tube is dipped 6 cm inside water, the water will rise in capillary upto height

Solution

Capillary rise = 2Tcos@/ rdg where d is the density of medium(in this case water) and T is the surface tension .so as u can see for a particular tube T ,r and for the same medium d will also be same so rise will be same in both condition.so rise in this case also will be 5 cm but length of tube is 10cm and 6cm of it is already immersed so rise can maximum only be (10-6) =4cm.
