Given :

  • Initial velocity = 0 m/s
  • Final velocity = 35 m/s
  • Time = 5s

To find :

  • Acceleration of car

Explanation :

Acceleration is defined as rate of change of velocity, Formula for calculating acceleration is given by the equation,

a = (v - u)/t

Where,

  • a is acceleration
  • v is final velocity
  • t is time interval

Acceleration is a vector quantity, therefore denoted by the \vec a . SI unit of acceleration is m/s².

Acceleration can be zero, negative as well as postive. Negative acceleration is called as Retardation. And acceleration is zero when a object in at rest, or final velocity or equal to initial velocity.

Solution :

Use 1st equation of Motion

v = u + at

a = (v - u)/t

a = (35 - 0)/5

a = 35/5

a = 7

Acceleration is 7 m/s²
