total acceleration (vector acceleration) = [+2 - 4 ] m/s^{2}

                                                                 = -2m/s^{2}

acceleration × time = Δ velocity

-2m/s^{2}  × 3s  = -6m/s

since velocity = -6m/s  

velocity × time taken = distance {hint - [ m/s × s = m ] }

-6m/s  ×  3s = -18m  

∴ the total distance traveled by car = -18m
