Given:

A car accelerates from rest at constant rate for  first 10 s and covers a distance x. It covers a  distance y in next 10 s at the same acceleration.

To Choose:

Which of the following is true ?

(1) x=3y

(2) y=3x

(3) x=y

(4) y=2x

Solution:

it is given that- a car accelerates from rest at constant rate for  first 10 s and covers a distance x.

from the 2nd equation of motion:

s=u+\dfrac{1}{2}at^2

here, according to question;

x = 0+\dfrac{1}{2}a \times (10)^2\\\\x=50a      ---(1)

since, it travels distance y in next 10sec at the same acceleration .

therefore,

x+y=\dfrac{1}{2}a \times (20)^2\\\\x+y=200a    ----(2)

from equation (1) and (2) , we get

y = 150a

y = 3x

Option (2) is correct.
