Required Answer :

Acceleration of the car = 5/9 m/s² or 0.56 m/s²

Given :

  • Initial velocity of the car = 12 km/h
  • Final velocity of the car = 18 km/h
  • Time = 3 seconds

To find :

  • Acceleration of the car

Knowledge required :

First equation of motion :

  • v = u + at

where,

  • v denotes the final velocity
  • u denotes the initial velocity
  • a denotes the acceleration
  • t denotes the time

Solution :

Firstly, let's convert the velocity from km/h into m/s. To convert it into m/s, multiply the value by 5/18.

Initial velocity :

⇒ Initial velocity = 12 × 5/18

⇒ Initial velocity = 6 × 5/9

⇒ Initial velocity = 2 × 5/3

⇒ Initial velocity = 10/3

Initial velocity of the car = 10/3 m/s

Final velocity :

⇒ Final velocity = 18 × 5/18

⇒ Final velocity = 5

Final velocity of the car = 5 m/s

Substituting the given values in first equation of motion :

⇒ 5 = 10/3 + (a)(3)

⇒ 5 - 10/3 = a × 3

⇒ (15 - 10)/3 = a × 3

⇒ 5/3 = a × 3

⇒ 5/3 × 1/3 = a

⇒ 5/9 = a

Therefore,

  • Acceleration of the car = 5/9 m/s² or 0.56 m/
