A car battery is of 12V. Eight dry cells of 1.5V connected in series also give 12V, but such a combination is not used to start a car. Why?

it is not use as series as becoz if due to any problem 2nd or 3rd or other one will not work then the next to it also stops working. that's the reason parallel connection is use not the series connection.

as car want parallel series if all cells are conected in series then if any one cell stop working than all cells stops as they are in series and car will stop

If we apply parallel then we won't be able to supply that much electricity as we supplied in series.
