Given :

  • A car consumed 40 litres of petrol in going from town A to town B and another 50 litres of petrol in going from town B to town C. If the petrol cost $75 per litre.

To Find :

  • The total amount spent on petrol.

Solution :

In this question, firstly we will find the total petrol used by the car. After that we will multiply the the total petrol used by the car by cost of petrol to get the total amount spent on the petrol.

  • Petrol used between town A and town B = 40 litres
  • Petrol used between town B and town C = 50 litres
  • The cost of petrol = $ 75 per litre

Total Petrol used by the car :

  • Petrol used between town A and town B + Petrol used between town B and town C
  • (40 + 50) litres
  • 90 litres

Total Amount spent on petrol :

  • Total petrol used by the car × Cost of petrol
  • $ (90 × 75)
  • $ 6750

Therefore :

  • Total Amount spent on petrol is $ 6750
