Correct Question:

A car takes 2 hours 80 minutes to travel 180 km. How much distance will it cover in 1 hour 30 minutes, if its speeds remain constant ?

Answer:

The car will cover a distance of 81 km in 1 hour 30 minutes.

Given:

Time = 2 hours 80 minutes.

Distence travelled = 180 km

Speed remains same.

To find:

Distance travelled in 1 hour 30 minutes.

Explanation:

1 hour = 60 minutes.

∴ 2 hours  80 minutes = (60×2) + 80 minutes

                                     = 120+80 minutes

                                     = 200 minutes.

∴ 1 hour 30 minutes = (1×60) + 30 minutes

                                 = 60+ 30 minutes

                                 = 90 minutes.

Hence,

In 200 minutes the car covers a distance of 180 km.

∴ In 1 minute the car covers a distance of (180/200) km

In 90 minutes the car covers a distance of_

(180×90/200) km

= (9×90/10) km [∵ Dividing 180 and 200 by 20.]

=(9×9) km [∵ Dividing 90 and 10 by 10]

= 81 km.

∴ In 1 hour 30 minutes the car will cover a distance of 81 km.
