a car cover one fourth of the total distance with velocity of 20 m/s next one fourth part with the velocity of 40 m/s then next one fourth part with the velocity of 20m/s and last one fourth part with the velocity of 40m/s find the average speed of car

I presume that by "speed", we mean "velocity" & that all velocity vectors here are in the same direction.

Distance = x mtrs

time takes is (x/2 /20) + (x/2 /30)

= x/40 + x/60 sec

= (3x/120 + 2x/120) sec

= 5x/120 seconds

|velocity| = speed = dist (x) / time (5x/120)

= 1m/(5/120)sec

=120/5 m/sec

= 24 m/s
