A car covered half the distance between two towns in 3hrs and 30mins. After that he increased his speed by 3km/hr. He covered the remaining half of the distance in 3hrs and 15mins. Find the distance between the two towns and the initial speed of the car.

Answer:

Let the distance between the town's be 2x and speed be y.

So x=2.5y

And x=7(y+2)/3 - 2hr 20min is 7/3 hr.

So equating 1 and 2 we have 7y+14 = 7.5y

Or y=28

So initial speed is 28

So x is 2.5y= 70

Which means distance is 2x or 140kms
