A car covers a certain distance in 10 hours. If it covers half distance at 40 km/hr and
remaining distance at 60 km/hr, what distance did the car cover?

Letx consider, x= total distance covered by the car,

Time taken to complete the half distance with velocity v=40km/h,

t1=2×40x=80xhr. . . . .(1)

The time taken to complete another half distance with velocity u=60km/h

t2=2×60x=120xhr

The total time taken, t=t1+t2

t=80x+120x=48xhr

The average speed of the car, 

vavg=x/48x=48km/h
