A car covers a distance of 420 km at its normal speed. If the speed of the car would have been 10 km/hr more than the normal speed, then it would have taken one hour less to cover the same distance. What was the speed of the car?

Step-by-step explanation:

Let speed of car be x km/h.

and total time in journey be 't'

then

Given x=t/420

xt=420-----(1)

and if speed =x+10

time=t-1

x+10=(t−1)420

(x+10)(t-1)=420---(2)

xt-x+10t-10=420

10t-x=430-420

10t-x=10

10t-t420=10

10t2−10t−420=0

t2−t−42=0

(t-7)(t+5)=0

t=7 & t not equal to −5

 if t=7 then x=6300=90

speed of car be 90 km/h

and time journey be 7 hrs
