Distance travelled = S₁ = 2 km

Speed = v₁ = 30 km/hr

Time taken = t₁ = S₁/v₁ = 2/30 = 1/15 hr

Distance travelled = S₂ = 2 km

Speed = v₂ = 20 km/hr

Time taken = t₂ = S₂/v₂ = 2/20 = 1/10 hr

We know that,

Average speed = Total distance / Total time

In the given case,

Total distance = 4 km

Total time = 1/15 + 1/10 = (2+3)/30 = 5/30 = 1/6 hr

Hence,

Average Speed = 4/(1/6) = 4×6 = 24 km/hr

Answer:

24 km/hr

Explanation:

Given :

  • 2 km was covered with a speed of 30 km/h

  • Other 2 km was covered with a speed of 20 km/h

To find:

  • Average speed of the car

Average speed = total distance / total time

Total distance = 2+2 = 4 km

Time = distance / speed

Time 1 = 2/30

Time 2 = 2/20

Average speed = 4/ 2/20+2/30

Average speed = 4/ 6/60+4/60

Average speed = 4/10/60

Average speed = 4/10×60

Average speed = 24 km/hr

The average speed of the car is equal to 24 km/hr
