A car covers first quarter of its journey at a speed of 30kmph , second quarter at 40kmph and the rest at 60kmph. Find its average speed during the journey.

For the car to travel for the first quarter of the journey, it took (1/4 x)/30 = (1/120) x hr

The second part of the journey, it took (1/4 x)/40 = (1/160)x hr

The last part of the journey, it took (1/2 x)/60 =(1/120)x hr.

The total time would be (1/120)x + (1/160)x + (1/120)x = (11/480)x hr.

The average speed would be x / (11/480)X = 480/11 = 43.6km/h
