6 is the answer

because

24 miles in one gallon of gas

and we should find for 144 gallons

24miles--------------- 1 gallon

144miles--------------- ?

cross multiplication=   144×1÷24

that equals to 6

  • Given : A car goes 24 miles per one gallon of gas.

  • To Find : No. of gallons the car would take in order to travel 144 miles.

24 miles → 1 gallon.

114 miles → Multiplication of 144 miles with one gallon, and then dividing it with 24 miles.

That is,

114 miles =  \frac{ 114 \times 1 }{24}

 \frac{114}{24}

= 6 gallons.

Hence, the car needs 6 gallons of gas in order to travel 144 miles.
